This is a piece of framed hand painted art by an artist named John Jayne who signed his art as "gramps." It's oil on canvas board. If you zoom into the listing photos you can see the painted texture of the piece. This was one of the pieces that we acquired from his household estate sale. He was a prolific painter and he painted many local landscapes and landscapes of the PNW. This particular landscape is Rattlesnake Mountain which is located in Southeastern Washington State. The landscape local to Rattlesnake Moutain is a Shrub Steppe eco system, which gramps captured here beautifully. Rattlesnake Mountain is an interesting place all on it's own. Neighbor to the location in Washington State selected by the government in the 1940s to host Plutonium production for the Manhattan Project (The Hanford Site). Thousands of people still work in the shadow of this mountain with a new mission of Environmental clean-up and Columbia River protection. Rattlesnake Mountain maintains historical lore as having a government bunker installation inside its belly, which is rumored to have been constructed in the event of enemy attack during World War II.

Aside from this piece, we have a number of his other paintings in our shop. When I ran into his work at his estate sale, I was very moved by his talent, clear passion for his local landscapes and the sheer number of pieces that were for sale. I am excited about getting them out in the world so they can be shared and enjoyed by others. This large Oak frame is in great vintage condition with marks here and there consistent with age.
