  • Details
The Inferno is about Dante's journey into Hell. Guided by the poet Virgil, Dante descends through the Nine Circles of Hell, eventually arriving at the center where Satan himself resides. After escaping Hell, Dante and Virgil will go on to Purgatory and then Dante ascends to Heaven.

This Antique copy of Dante's Inferno is translated by Rev. Hanry Francis Cary and Illustrated by Gustave Dore. There is no copyright recorded inside the book, but it was published by Thompson & Thomas out of Chicago, Illinois who operated between 1900-1908. This cloth bound book is in stunning condition. The binding is sound in condition with no sign of detachment. The major disclosures for this copy include one small tear to the bottom edging of the front board and a small white colored smudge on the cover which can be seen in the listing photos. Otherwise, you will find general wear to the edges and corners of the book as would be expected for a copy this old. I would say that the photos wash the color of this book out a little bit, and in person, the cloth binding is deeper maroon in color. This book has been incredibly well taken care of in its lifetime and we hope its next home continues to cherish and care for it for many years to come. The pages are in excellent condition with light foxing throughout. Dore's illustrations are unmatched, and this book is full of breathtaking etchings.
