The majority of the research we did on this kind of sculpture suggests that they are folk art in nature and date back to the mid-century. Hand crafted, hand-painted and no two cheetahs are the same. Leather cheetahs like this are known to originate from Mexico, Africa and India, to name a few locations. This particular cheetah does not have any makers marks or signatures and due to the wide range of background possibilities, we are unable to pinpoint his origin story. Made of leather and paper mache, he's extremely well crafted with careful detailing. The definition on his rib cage and wrinkles in his snarl add so much character to his overall craftsmanship. He has glass eyes and his wiskers are intact and in great condition. He has such a great face and stance, too. Some of the leather cheetahs out there on the market are kinda scary looking (and not in an intimidating predator kind of way). He's hand painted and in excellent vintage condition.
