This stunning engraving was created on copper by Niccolò Cavalli (1730-1822, Longarone, Italy) after artist Francesco Maggiotto (1738-1805, Venice, Italy). Titled "Three Half-Length Figures from a Venetian Carnival" and estimated to have been created around 1800. The wood frame was originally finished with gold gilding on the front of the frame and is now warn and cracked leaving behind so much incredible character. The wooden frame shows signs of wear consistent with antique age (likely framed in the early 19th century),but is in beautifully sturdy condition and has been exceptionally well taken care of. The original etching shows numerous signs of age and foxing. See listing photos closely for most accurate description of age. A rare and stunningly beautiful piece that would serve as the perfect statement conversation piece in your personal space. We absolutely love its unique masquerade imagery.
A little note about the previous owners:
This antique etching belonged to John and Elinor McGuire, world renowned furniture designers. Following Elinor's passing in 2005, this piece of art was acquired from the McGuire estate in 2006 in San Fransisco, CA. Inscription on the back of the piece was added upon acquisition.
