You will receive the set of two framed portrait prints with the purchase of this listing. These two prints depict art originally created by Hans Holbein the Younger in the 1500s. Hans Holbein the Younger (c. 1497– 1543) was a German painter and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style and is considered one of the greatest portraitists of the 16th century. He also produced religious art, satire, and Reformation propaganda, and he made a significant contribution to the history of book design. He is called "the younger" to distinguish him from his father Hans Holbein the Elder, an accomplished painter of the Late Gothic school.

The two portraits here are of Cicely Heron, daughter or Sir Thomas More and Sir John Gage. Cecily Heron (c. 1507–?) was part of a circle of exceptionally educated and accomplished women who exemplified "learned ladies" for the next two centuries. Sir John Gage (1479 - 1556) was an English courtier during the Tudor period. He held a number of offices, including Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1542-1547), Comptroller of the Household (1540-1547), Constable or the Tower (1540-1556) and Lord Chamberlain (1553-1556).

Both portraits are nicely framed in thin light weight wood frames with hangers that suggest they are quite vintage in age. Both are in exceptional condition with marks and wear consistent with vintage age and paper backing still intact. There does appear to be water damage on the backing paper of both frames, but no water damage is seen on the front of either frame.
