Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, justice, and war. She was also a patron of the arts, trade, and strategy. These cast iron bookends are finished in a bronze color and were produced by The Judd Company who operated out of Connecticut between 1830-1954. They began producing decorative cast iron goods like bookends, doorstops, doorknockers, and inkwells around the 1910s. That dates these bookends anywhere between 1910-1954. A beautiful set of bookends. There is rubbing and wear to the finish which can be seen in the listing photos and a slight bow to one of the bookends just above the base. Neither or these disclosures compromise their function and stunning character. We absolutely love the cameo style approach to the Minerva profile. A model number and the Judd Company makers mark of CJO. can be found on the back of each bookend.
