Antique 1778 Set of Three Books Memoirs of Sully - in French

Set of three French books dated 1778, “Memoirs of Sully”. Written in French, this is an incomplete set of even numbered books (2,4 and 8). Full mottled calf leather exterior boards. Frontispiece piece in book 2, and small vignettes periodically throughout the books along with decorative headpieces on some pages, but otherwise, unillustrated. Memoirs of Sully is a book written by Maximilien de Bethume, that chronicles his life and service to King Henry IV of France. Originally published in France in 1638, it includes the history of Henry IV’s reign and Sully’s administration. It also provides and insider’s perspective on a key period in French history and includes Sully’s role in the building a centralized administrative system in France. The books are in great antique condition with minor wear to the exterior boards and spine. The hinges of the books are worn with cosmetic cracking, but fully intact. The most significant disclosure is the worn headband on volume 8 that can be seen in the photos. Expected foxing to the pages but overall beautiful condition for a set of books that are nearly 250 years old.

SHIPPING
As much as possible, we utilize recycled shipping boxes. The box you receive your item in may show signs of wear and pre-use.
